So long, long distance!

The big move to Germany finally happened.  I find myself now surrounded by nature, farm land, delicious and fresh food, a new culture and language, and most importantly, my husband. I am still in disbelief that the long anticipated moment of actually being together truly manifested.  We are on the same continent, in the same time zone, in the same house.  I can turn over in the morning and see him next to me instead of grabbing for my phone, before my eyes even adjust, to read the "good morning" email that was always waiting for me…

A long distance relationship is not for the fickle, pessimistic, or confused.  It requires a genuine heart, a dreaming mind, and a veracious tongue.  Above all, it requires commitment.

Let me be the first to tell you that if you choose to be with someone, and you know in your soul that this person will open your mind when it closes, love you even when you are being a total pain in the ass, and do everything possible to make it really clear that they choose you, too. well, then your sleepless, lonely nights, your holidays and special occasions spent alone, your meals cooked for only one… they all fade quietly into the past as the life together you dreamed of begins each day at sunrise.

Good bye, long distance relationship.  I will not miss you, but I thank you for the opportunity to grow as an individual and fortify an unshakeable foundation with my husband.

"Distance is not for the fearful, it's for the bold.  It's for those who are willing to spend a lot of time alone in exchange for a little time with the one they love.  It's for those who know a good thing when they see it, even if they don't see it nearly enough." ~ Meghan Daum
